Where It All Started

My love for photography started young. I remember being surrounded by camcorders and cameras all the time growing up. My family wanted to be able to capture memories so we could look back on them later on when the kids grow up and have babies of their own.

My grandfather gifted all of his grandchildren each one of those little digital cameras… mine was pink. I can remember just always fooling around with the camera, making silly videos and taking photos of anything and everything. I took that little pink camera every where I went. I wanted to be just like my grandfather and uncle, capturing all the memories our families were making so I could hold onto something too.

When I was around 13 years old, my grandfather gifted me my first ever real Nikon camera. My friends and I would go out in the backyard and have little photoshoots. I didn’t know much about editing or photoshop back then, but I knew I loved taking photos and making others smile.

After the first year and a half of college, I decided to change my major from elementary education and math to majoring in studio arts with a focus in sculpture and photography. I learned the basics of photoshop and Lightroom during the first few photography classes, and from there I developed my style over time.

At first I thought I wanted to be light and airy just like all my other photographer friends, but I realized a few years into editing that way… that I wasn’t being authentic enough to myself. I love the cinematic moodiness of dull and grainy photos. I don’t like posing people as much as I like giving prompts for my clients to do to capture more true, authentic, memories.

I’m so excited to continue working on my editing style and how I capture memories. I dream to become a travel photographer and have a client base world wide, but first I got to start small… huh?
